{"id":17,"date":"2011-02-26T21:06:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-26T21:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.somethingsomethingsecurity.com\/?p=17"},"modified":"2011-02-26T21:06:00","modified_gmt":"2011-02-26T21:06:00","slug":"active-defense-for-web-server-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.somethingsomethingsecurity.com\/?p=17","title":{"rendered":"Active Defense for web server &#8211; Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Took a while, but I think I finally got something &#8220;new&#8221; worth sharing. <\/p>\n<p>Again as with most things I do, this really isn&#8217;t anything new, but is really a mash up of other people&#8217;s ideas.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this series is to do a little offensive defense of a web server (mostly focused on Microsoft).<\/p>\n<p>We will start with some background:\u00a0setting up IIS and logging,\u00a0using ipsec as a firewall\u00a0in Windows\u00a02003,\u00a0using command line commands to\u00a0manage a firewall in\u00a0Windows 2008 and mining logs with Logparser.<\/p>\n<p>With that knowledge\u00a0we\u00a0will be able to\u00a0set up a script to implement a very simple\u00a0&#8220;web application firewall&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p>We will conclude the series with a look at URLscan, a better\u00a0version of the script and\u00a0a Linux version of the &#8220;web application firewall&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Took a while, but I think I finally got something &#8220;new&#8221; worth sharing.
